Public Issues

Chairman: Mary Lou Kueffer

Purpose: To provide comfort and resource to members of the armed forces, to increase patriotism and pride in heritage, and to promote community safety and the well-being of all citizens.

The committee is responsible to schedule a guest speaker at one of the business meetings.

It is also encouraged to promote other projects, such as:

  • Domestic Violence
  • Human Trafficking
  • Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Women in the military

Placing flags of veteran's graves in May 2017 For Memorial Day 2017, members of Wilmington Woman's Club, along with other groups, helped put out flags on the graves of veterans at the National Cemetery on Market Street to honor all veterans who are buried there.

Domestic Violence Luncheon: During May, 2017, members of Wilmington Woman's Club attended a luncheon to support victims of domestic violence.

Placed wreaths on soldiers' graves in Dec. 2016: During the weekend of Dec. 17th and 18th, members of Wilmington Woman's Club laid wreaths on graves in the Wilmington National Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America, which commemorates the lives of fallen soldiers during the holiday season.

Hosted a Tea for Woman Veterans in Sept. 2016: On September 18, 2016, members of Wilmington Woman's Club hosted a tea to honor woman veterans in the Cape Fear Region who have served and given so much to our country and community.

Placed flags on veterans' graves in May 2016: On Saturday, May 28, 2016, members of Wilmington Woman's Club, along with other groups, helped put out 5,766 flags on the graves of veterans at the National Cemetery on Market Street to honor all veterans who are buried there.

Visited Harrelson Center in March 2016: This center is open to the community and includes organizations that support women who have experienced domestic violence and women who are victims of sex trafficking. The center provides professional development leading to employment.
